Little by Little

I had a conversation with someone at the park that was so powerful, I have to share it.

This was a mom at the playground with 3 boys who looked to be about 2, 4, and 8. She commented on my shirt with my company name, “Health Yourself,” and we started talking. She told me that she lost 250 lbs over several years. 250 lbs!! Not all at once – she gained some after a pregnancy and then lost some more.

I asked her what worked for her, thinking she might say this or that diet, or maybe a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic.

She just said, “consistency” and smiled this huge smile with a small nod like she was referring to the time she found a bucket of gold at the end of the rainbow.

My. Heart. Freaking. Sang.

She did find the gold at the end of the rainbow! Consistency is the key to achieving your dream body and the health you want and deserve.

Read that again: Consistency is the key to achieving your dream body and the health you want and deserve.

I wish it was as easy as just telling people. And I do tell people – all the time! It’s just one of those things that’s really hard to internalize and pour your faith into unless you’ve experienced it personally or maybe witnessed a good friend or family member undergo a transformation.

Most people have no problem starting a program. Start that diet, order that meal delivery service, go to the gym 3 times a week, buy new running shoes… but when a couple weeks pass and nothing much has changed… they throw in the towel and say

“This isn’t working”
“My body just won’t respond”
“Who was I kidding”
“What a waste of time”

“Little by little, one travels far.” –Unknown

Be patient. Your body is an incredible machine, and it’s capable of making breathtaking transformations. You just have to give it the right stuff for long enough

And that doesn’t mean you have to be perfect – never miss a workout, never have dessert. Far from it! In fact, it works against you to have an all-or-nothing mindset. It’s not realistic, it puts too much pressure on you, and it leads to burnout and giving up.

Here’s what I tell my clients: Do the best you can as often as you can.

You slip up? You fall off the wagon? It literally does not matter. It’s a blip. It’s not you being a massive humiliating failure. It’s a little tiny blip that quickly gets lost in the background as you continue moving forward.

Now, with all that inspirational stuff behind us, let me share something practical with you. We all struggle with self-control – here are some very simple and very effective ways to come out the winner: Little Mental Tricks.
